Lauren Oppy | Pub Trivia Australia

At Pub Trivia Australia, we've helped hundreds of Australian venues get their professionally designed big screen trivia up and running in under 15 minutes. Here's exactly how we do it.

What You Need to Run Big Screen Trivia

Pub Trivia Australia’s Big Screen Trivia packs are professionally designed PowerPoint trivia games built for Australian pubs, clubs and venues. Each pack is ready to run on your existing TV or projector, with questions, picture rounds, answer reveals and hosting materials already included.

You almost certainly already have everything - and we provide the rest.

  • A Pub Trivia Australia Hosting Pack - includes the game, player registration and answer forms, scoresheet, restaurant vouchers, and drink cards. Everything is ready to go straight out of the box.
  • A laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint installed - any modern laptop works. The browser version of PowerPoint can alter fonts and affect how the presentation displays, so we recommend the desktop app (Microsoft 365).
  • A TV or projector - any screen already in your venue works perfectly.
  • An HDMI cable - standard, available at any hardware store if you don't already have one.
  • A wireless microphone - so your host can move around the room and keep the energy up. Connected to your existing PA system.
  • Pens for your players - buy a box and keep spares behind the bar. Remember to ask teams to return pens at the end of the game.

Most Australian venues are set up and running in under 15 minutes.

Step 2: Open Your Pack in PowerPoint

Your Big Screen Trivia game runs as a PowerPoint presentation through Microsoft 365. No configuration needed - just open and present.  The presentation is fully designed and ready to go, with high-resolution images and built-in questions.

Step 3: Connect to Your Venue's Screens

Here are the three most common setups:

Option 1 - Direct HDMI Connection

Only have one screen? Connect your laptop directly to the TV or projector with an HDMI cable. Simple, reliable, no wifi needed.

Option 2 - Use Your Existing Foxtel Connection

Most Australian venues already have Foxtel running to multiple screens. When it's trivia time, simply unplug one Foxtel box and plug your laptop's HDMI cable in instead.

Option 3 - Wireless via Chromecast

If your Foxtel box is in a locked office or hard-to-reach area, install a Chromecast into the Foxtel input and connect your laptop wirelessly over wifi. You can then run the show from anywhere in the venue.

Running Multiple Screens

Already have a multi-screen setup through Foxtel or a Nightlife music system? Use that same connection. Your trivia will display across all screens simultaneously - no extra equipment required.

Step 4: Run the Show

Once you're connected, your host simply presses the spacebar to start each round and reveal answers. Once a round begins, the timing runs automatically - it's built into the presentation design, so the game does the heavy lifting. No technical knowledge needed on the night.
