Setting up big screen trivia at your venue is easier than you think. If you can plug in a laptop, you can run a professional trivia night. Here's everything you need to get started.

What You Need

Before your trivia night, make sure you have:

  • A laptop with Microsoft PowerPoint (Microsoft 365)
  • An HDMI cable
  • Pens for your players
  • A microphone for your host

That's it. No tech expertise required.

Step 1: Get Your Trivia Pack

Choose how you want to receive your game:

Via Download - Order online and receive your PowerPoint file instantly. Some in-house printing required for answer sheets.

Via Post - A complete, ready-to-play pack arrives at your venue. Everything included.

Step 2: Open Your Pack in PowerPoint

Your Big Screen Trivia game runs as a PowerPoint presentation through Microsoft 365. Simply open the file on your laptop - the presentation is fully designed and ready to go, with high-resolution images and questions built in.

Step 3: Connect to Your Venue's Screens

Here are the three most common setups:

Option 1 - Direct HDMI Connection

Only have one screen? Connect your laptop directly to the TV or projector with an HDMI cable. Simple, reliable, no wifi needed.

Option 2 - Use Your Existing Foxtel Connection

Most Australian venues already have Foxtel running to multiple screens. When it's trivia time, simply unplug one Foxtel box and plug your laptop's HDMI cable in instead.

Option 3 - Wireless via Chromecast

If your Foxtel box is in a locked office or hard-to-reach area, install a Chromecast into the Foxtel input and connect your laptop wirelessly over wifi. You can then run the show from anywhere in the venue.

Running Multiple Screens

Already have a multi-screen setup through Foxtel or a Nightlife music system? Use that same connection. Your trivia will display across all screens simultaneously - no extra equipment required.

Step 4: Run the Show

Once you're connected, your host simply hits the spacebar to start each round and reveal answers. Once a round begins, the timing runs automatically - it's built into the presentation design, so the game does the heavy lifting. No technical knowledge needed on the night.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need special software?
You need Microsoft PowerPoint, which is part of Microsoft 365. If you already have Office on your laptop, you're ready to go.

Can I run it without wifi?
Yes. If you connect your laptop directly to the TV via HDMI, you don't need wifi at all. Wifi is only needed if you're using a Chromecast for a wireless connection.

What if my venue has multiple screens?
Use your existing multi-screen setup - Foxtel or a Nightlife music system both work perfectly. Your trivia displays across all screens at once.
